Location of the Backpacker de La Barra, Punta del Este, Uruguay

1. How to get to Punta del Este from Argentina

You have 3 possibilities: bus, boat/bus and plane.

  3. How to get to Punta del Este from Brasil

You have 2 possibilities: bus, and plane.
a. Bus

Buses leave from the Retiro Bus Terminal in Buenos Aires and the trip is about 10 Hs.

The companies that service these routes are CAUVI (Tel.:4314-6999/4880) and Bus de la Carrera (Tel.: 4313-1700)

  a. Bus

From Rio, Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre o Chuy you can take either EGA (www.egakeguay.com) or TTL (www.ttl.com.br). Both have very good buses, very comfortable and modern.

The rates will depend on where you are beginning your trip. For example, a ticket Punta del Este - Porto Alegre costs about 100 dollars.

b. Boat/Bus

The more economic option, is through Cacciola ( Tel.: 4393-6100/ 4394-5520) leaving from Tigre to Carmelo and then by bus (6 hours) to Punta del Este. The price is about 30 dollars.

Buquebus Tel.: 4316-6500/ 4316-6550) goes from Buenos Aires to Colonia with a slow boat (3hs) and a fast boat (1h) and then by bus to Punta del Este (5hs) and also from Buenos Aires to Montevideo with a fast boat (3hs) and then bus to Punta del Este (2hs). The prices goes from 50 to 100 dollars.

  b. Plane

Only one company, Pluna, has direct flights between Brasil and Uruguay. There is one from Curitiba to Montevideo (about 180 dollars) and another from Río de Janeiro to Montevideo (400 dollars).

All other combinations include a stop at Buenos Aires (either aeroparque or Ezeiza) and then a flight to Montevideo or Punta del Este by Pluna or Aerolíneas Argentinas.

 

c. Plane

Either Pluna (tel:4320-2585) or Aerolíneas Argentinas. (tel: 0800-222-volar) fly Buenos Aires-Montevideo and Buenos Aires-Punta del Este. the flight takes 35 y 40 minutes and costs 80 y 120 dollars respectively leaving from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. When you get to Montevideo you will have to take a bus to Punta del Este (2hs).
  2. How to get to Punta del Este from Montevideo

From Bus Terminal Tres Cruces of Montevideo you have buses every 30 minutes. COT and COPSA are the companies and the trip takes 2 hs. You can also get the bus at the Carrasco Airport and leave it at the Terminal of Punta del Este.

4. How to get to the Backpacker

When you arrive to the Bus Terminal of Punta del Este, you take the "micro" to La Barra, as soon as you cross the bridge, you get down at the Parada 40. Across the avenue, you'll see a perpendicular street in front of you, with a "BACKPACKER" sign. Take this road and then just follow the "BACKPACKER" signs. 500m. away from the main road you'll see the hostel at your left.

Coming from the East, once you pass by La Barra's gas station (Ancap), go straight ahead by Camino Urquiza (that goes to San Carlos' Zoo) 500m. and turn left one block and then right and you'll find us at your left, there are signs along the road so you'll find us easily.
